China International Energy Industry EXPO

September 2012, Taiyuan, Shanxi, China

"Comprehensive resource utilization" and the "circular economy" were two themes emphasized at the China International Energy Industry (CIEI) EXPO, held in September 2012 in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi province. JHCGA staff members David Wendt, Olivia Meigs, and Mark Newcomb attended this event as guests of the Shanxi committee of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).

Senior officials at the central and provincial government level stressed the importance of these concepts in guiding energy development while reducing energy use per unit of production. The EXPO was also host for displays of many of China's largest energy companies. The intricate and extensive exhibits demonstrated China's work to put these concepts into practice.

While in Taiyuan, JHCGA staffers also participated in the BIT 1st International Symposium on Clean Coal Technology – 2012.

As part of a session on "Global Issues and Policy of Clean Coal Technology," Dr. Wendt gave a talk on "The Role of Clean Energy Standards in International Coal Markets." Other speakers on China’s growing demand for coal exported from other countries included Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D).
