Mission
Statement: Harnessing the inspirational power of Jackson Hole, the Jackson
Hole Center for Global Affairs brings together organizations to develop and
implement innovative and practical responses to global challenges.
The Jackson Hole Center for Global Affairs brings to the community of Jackson
Hole an opportunity for involvement in global affairs. This opportunity includes
not only awareness of global issues, but also action steps to help shape global
responses to issues of concern in the community.
Examples of challenges to which JHCGA is responding include climate change and
engaging Islam (see What’s New). For five years, JHCGA
has through its U.S.-China Clean Energy Initiative brought policymakers and
technical experts from the U.S. and China together to determine means of
mitigating the adverse environmental effects of the use of coal. Two meetings in
Jackson Hole and two in Shanxi, China’s leading coal-producing province, have
addressed such issues as emissions trading, advanced clean coal technology, and
coalmine methane recovery and utilization.
Over the past year, JHCGA has also worked with partners in Jackson and beyond to
focus attention on the challenge of engaging moderate Islam. JHCGA’s
partnerships with the International Studies program of the University of
Wyoming, the International Center for Religion and Diplomacy, St. John’s
Episcopal Church, the East-West Institute, the Wyoming Global Leadership
Exchange, and the Lynn and Foster Friess Foundation have brought prominent
scholars and practitioners to the community to explore means of reinforcing
sources of pluralism and tolerance in Islam.
JHCGA involves the community in these issues through invitations to events,
distribution of its newsletter and video productions, and special activities
including cultural exchanges and internships. Its leadership (see
Leadership) includes a community-based Board of
Directors and an Advisory Board of prominent national and community leaders.
JHCGA derives its support from charitable contributions from foundations and
members of its Boards, donations through Jackson Hole’s annual Old Bill’s Fun
Run, and subscriptions to special activities such as its newly-inaugurated
Global Business Roundtable.
Further information on JHCGA’s programs and activities can be obtained through
our newsletters and other materials or by contacting us at the numbers and
addresses listed (see Contact Us). JHCGA welcomes the
involvement of the community of Jackson Hole in building a constituency for
global engagement that responds to the distinct interests and needs of our part
of the country.
